Particularly in the case of a physical book, I would think that would be the realm of your editor to catch that.

Yes, true! And if I had an editor, I'd probably have to fire them!

Obviously, such mistakes happen to the BEST of us. ;-) You're good to share and turn it into a positive reflection. Hope you don't lose any more sleep over it!

Nope I'm sleeping well :) The first day was a little rough though! Thanks for the kind words!

I'm sure that once the shock reaction recedes you'll be able to smile and laugh about it. Silver lining: only 50 books went out. I've made a few very public mistakes, including typos. Gold lining: Everyone loves and admires you even more for your honesty and openness.

Thanks and that's really kind of you. I'm laughing about it now. I luckily have learned to find a lot of things about myself to laugh about. Now I have another!

sorry Brian - you need to remove it from the amazon grab on your book page. If it makes you feel better, I designed a menu with the accidentally delightful dish of chicken in a bum

Comment author avatar

Thanks, and I know! It's still on the Amazon logo. I think it takes a few days to go away. Oh no chicken in a bum! Interesting new dish!

Beethoven dedicated his 3rd Symohiny to Napoleon and then when he turned out to be a tyrant, Beethoven angrily scratched out the dedication. No biggy - your great work exists and easily fixed. Thanks for sharing.

Oh no! I'm glad I didn't do that! Hopefully everyone I've aligned myself with stay out of totalitarian ruling! Thanks :)

the imposter in this situation was the a-hole who felt inclined to anonymously throw shade at you for a cover image typo. maybe this should also humble people enough to not scrutinize spelling and grammar to the pretentious levels they do. mistakes happen, and after you set an unrealistic precedent of perfection then you kinda deserve to feel like crap when you make a pretty simple mistake...

I've very thankful to the person who pointed it out. Otherwise, it would still be out there. And you're right, it's a high level to live up to. As an English teacher, I have always tried to be nonjudgmental about my spelling and grammar corrections on papers, and never make them in other situations! Thanks for the reminder!

Back when I was an accountant in my first job, I spent a week doing a property tax return for my employer. When I gave it to my boss for review, he found a really obvious addition error on the first page of the return. Later I was asked to resign, which was the way they fired people in those days. At the time I was devastated.

Oh no! That's pretty harsh. I'm sorry about that one. It can happen to anyone. I forget where I heard this, but it was about a boss who didn't fire an employee that made a mistake that cost the company $10,000. When asked why he didn't fire the employee, the boss said "I just spent $10,000 training him!" I hope that resignation opened doors to better opportunities!

I've had short stories published before—granted, only in smaller magazines or online anthologies, though all paid—and I still misspell shit on fourth drafts, and it's nearly always ridiculous, no-brainer words. It's a matter of being too close to your work, tantamount to mixing a track that you've just finished creating. I will, however, stand by any and all purposeful spelling errors that I make... for instance, sometimes "vibe" needs to have a "y" introduced into it, depending on the context (e.g., any reference to Erykah Badu's music,) or "caffiene" which is far more correct looking than "caffeine"... though still an ugly word aesthetically, overall. I believe that these are judgement calls that I'm qualified to make and moreso, it's my write as a righter to do so. ;)

I appreciate that perspective. I also enjoy the creative use of spelling and grammar for effect. Sometimes lyrics need to be fit into melodies creatively, at the expense of grammar. I like your thoughts on the artistic license to break the rules!

No mistake, for now on the correct word is "Produciton". Please all the other written content correct yourself, thanks

Thanks! I've found a way to laugh about it now, especially thanks to some of the nice people that have reached out!
